January 17, 2010

The APBA (American Power Boat Association) national convention is January 27-30 in Seattle. The convention will be visiting our museum probably multiple times.

As most of you know, we have started a restoration of Bill Muncey's "Blue Blaster" hydroplane. This was the last hydroplane Bill ever drove. The museum is now raising funds to restore this historic boat.

You can now find a link to pictures of the Blue Blaster restoration on the Museum's web sight (www.thunderboats.org) along the left hand side of the screen. Also on the left side of the screen you will find a link for the current "Museum Happenings" a big thank you to Steve Compton for the link.

The engine shop has also started work to repair the engine for the 82 Atlas Van Lines.

On Saturday January 16, Doug Brown, Alan and Lane McDonough and myself went "shopping" at our storage locker by the Sea-Tac airport. The purpose of the trip was to take inventory, and see about moving the inventory to the museum and to DiXon's storage facility where we already have storage. The move would help save the museum approximately $250.00 a month. We found and brought back some long lost treasures.

Alan will be leading the effort to buff and stage the Miss Wahoo for display at the museum beginning Tuesday night.

Before the convention we need to:
clean the window between the engine shop and main display area..cleaner is sitting by the window
clean the back man door and wall in the engine shop (grease spots and spider webs)
sweep the engine shop floor
sort and put away parts brought down on Saturday
the ignition system stand needs to be reassembled and work started on the ignition system for the Miss Burien
(Carl &Big Jim?)
we now have multiple magnetos to overhaul (Brent)
We have a few more starters to evaluate for condition (Flash)
another Meteor cylinder bank to strip off the paint (Joe and thanks for coming down and stripping the first one)
work is continuing on the Miss Burien accessory housing. It should be finished this week then on to the crankshaft
(A BIG thank you to Alan for upgrading the crank stand!) ,block and cylinder banks.

A big THANK YOU to all of the volunteers for all of your continuing work...without you we would have nothing!

until next time,

Glenn
